What is Reiki?

Reiki literally translated is Universal (Rei) Life Force Energy (Ki) from the Japanese language. It is a method of energy healing which was developed in the early 1900’s by Dr. Mikao Usui. It is a method that anyone can learn to use with the help of a Reiki Master-Teacher. Reiki is non-invasive, gentle and pleasant to receive. Reiki is practiced worldwide, being incorporated into healthcare in many hospitals. Reiki is safe. It is always for the recipient’s highest healing good and will do no harm. Reiki goes to where it is needed for the individual.

How much does a Reiki session cost?

A standard Reiki session is one hour and the fee is $55.

What happens during a Reiki session?

There are two different answers depending on whether the treatment is in person or is sent as a distance healing. In person, the client will lie on a comfortable surface, preferably a massage table, fully clothed, and relax. I use soft lighting and music to help the client relax. During the session I will begin the flow of energy through my hands and transfer it by gently placing my hands on different areas of the client’s person.

If the session is a distance healing we will initially discuss the circumstances leading the client to me for Reiki. Then we set up a time to hold the session. I ask that the client try to relax and have as few distractions as possible during the agreed upon session time. I will begin sending Reiki from where I am and will follow up after the session.

What will I feel during a Reiki treatment?

Reiki is life energy. We all have it to different extents. The difference between what we already have and what I am giving is that Reiki will go where it is needed most. I do not control that.

Some people feel warmth, some deeply relax. Others may feel waves of energy or vibrations. Others yet, may feel nothing but the fact that they are lying there with warm hands on them. In many instances a person will feel some combination of the above.

Do I need to do anything to prepare for a treatment?

No. I do suggest that the client not eat much for a couple of hours before the treatment. You should definitely not be under the influence of alcohol or narcotics during your session. If you are on prescription medication please try to time it so that the drugs are taken 2-4 hours before the session. Other than that, dress for comfort and enjoy. (See “Reiki Sessions” for more information)

Can I get a Reiki treatment if I am receiving other types of therapy?

Yes. Reiki works very well with all types of healthcare. In most cases it will enhance the benefits of other forms of therapy.

Can I receive Reiki in my home?

Yes. I do occasionally do on location sessions, depending on the circumstances and the distance. If we are not able to meet in person a distance healing session would be suggested. (See “Reiki Sessions” for more information)

What can I expect to happen after my treatment?

Anything can happen. You may be so relaxed that you feel groggy. Depending on what you needed from an energetic standpoint, you may feel anything from an increase in your normal level of energy to a drastic purging of your system. Most cases result in the gentle healing energy improving a condition the client had prior to the session, helping to relieve pain and anxiety.

I’ve heard Reiki can be sent long distance. How does that work?

I honestly do not know how it works but I do that it does work. The best explanation is that we are all energetic beings. All life has it’s own vibrational energy. There are ways that we can direct energy toward another.

If the session is a distance healing we will usually set up a time to hold the session. I ask that the client to relax and have as few distractions as possible. I will begin sending Reiki from where I am and will follow up after the session. (See “Reiki Sessions” for more information)

Does Reiki have any religious affiliations?

Why would an animal need Reiki?

Animals need Reiki for the same reasons a human would need it. Reiki enhances the physical, emotional, spiritual and mental well-being of the one receiving it, whether they are human or any other animal. Even plants, the environment and inanimate objects can benefit from Reiki.

How can my pet/animals receive Reiki?

I will come to your home to give your animal a Reiki session if you live in North King or South Snohomish counties. Otherwise I can do a distance healing for your animal (please see question above which explains distance Reiki and “Reiki Sessions”).

Can anyone learn Reiki?

Yes. Once you have received an attunement from a Reiki Master you are capable of giving Reiki to yourself and others. With the Reiki I attunement you learn guidelines. Beyond that it is up to you how much you want to learn and what you want to do with it. Reiki can do no harm, the worst that can happen is that you don’t use it once you are able to.

How is Reiki taught?

Reiki is passed on to students by a Reiki Master-Teacher. There are somewhat different styles of teaching Reiki but the general system involves 8-10 hours of instruction each for Reiki Iand Reiki II with the attunements the Master gives to allow you to fully receive the energy and fully pass it to whomever you are treating. Reiki Master training is dependent on the student seeking the Master level. Please see “Reiki Classes” for more information.

What is a Reiki Share or Reiki Circle?

A group of Reiki practitioners who gather together to share Reiki with one another is usually called a Reiki Share or Reiki Circle.

Most often they will be held in someone’s home or office and there will be one or more massage tables set up. One practitioner will lie on the table and the other practitioners will perform an abbreviated Reiki healing session on them. Each practitioner takes a turn as the receiver until everyone has been treated. Most shares will last 1 ½ - 2 hours and a receiver can be treated by up to 5 other Reiki practitioners. Needless to say, it can be very powerful. A receiver is generally on the table up to 20 minutes at most.
