Massage Therapy
Relaxation Massage From the beginning touch has been one of the most powerful calming therapies we have known. Touch is healing on many levels. When we hurt our natural reaction is to touch the area of pain. We hold our head when we have a headache, we hold our foot when we stub our toe, and we hold our children when they fall down.
I believe this is our inherent healing system. The animal kingdom is full of examples of healing touch. We watch primates groom one another for comfort whether at the end of their day or after a stressful event. Elephants touch one another with their trunks as gently and lovingly as a human mother strokes her child. Science has studied, experimented and scrutinized the phenomena of touch, whether healing, relaxing, any way it is used. The physiology and psychology of touch is powerful. Massage as a form of relaxation has been around for as long as our species has been leaving any records of our civilizations. Carvings, drawings and texts have been discovered showing that we have enjoyed its benefits for health and well-being in many forms. Today in our Western Society we have again begun to embrace the idea that therapeutic touch can be an effective, positive influence on our physical, mental and emotional health. Massage for relaxation may sound indulgent but it can be important as a stress reducing treatment for a persons overall self care. At this time in the U.S. our healthcare system recognizes the health and healing benefits of massage for injury treatment. Most of our health and accident insurance policies will have a provision for "medically necessary" massage benefit. Some companies are now including benefits for non-medically necessary massage. My relaxation massages include soft music, aromatherapy (if appropriate), softened lighting, a heated massage table, warm oils and a slow, smooth, sweeping, massage style. I welcome inquiries. Please contact me for more detailed, individualized information.
