Therapy for Animals
Theraputic Massage
As a Small Animal Massage Therapist (SAMP) my primary clients are dogs and sometimes cats. Other animals can benefit from massage as well, such as rabbits, rats, birds, lizards, etc. The most common reason I am called upon for companion animal massage is to either ease the pain of a geriatric or arthritic animal or to help with post surgery/accident rehabilitation. Some other instances are for chronic postural or gait patterns that need attention and for working and sporting dogs to assist in conditioning. Massage differs from other therapies (and petting) by specifically manipulating muscle and fascial tissue which increases circulation and mobility of the tissue. SAMP's are trained in anatomy, physiology and kinesiology (muscles) for small animals and the types of unique challenges they face. For instance, dogs have no clavicle and walk on their hands or more specifically, their fingers. This obviously presents different issues than those of humans. Each animal is unique physically, emotionally and has a different history. J Linn respects the individual animal and the bond between the companion and the guardian. Her compassion and empathy play a big part in the effectiveness of her treatments and the satisfaction of her clients. J Linn welcomes inquiries from people who are interested in discussing massage therapy for their animals. Please contact J Linn for more individual attention.
